Bluefield Type B Digital Dossier

Bluefield identified the requirement to develop a more efficient and effective approach to Type B compliance. We have developed a software-based management tool with an IPad App that allows businesses to simplify their Type B requirements. The software has been developed in a way that it becomes an equipment specification, compliance database and management tool. The platform is robust and has been developed with both field and operational personnel in mind. The software can be used both on and offline with automatic syncing of captured data once in range of connectivity.

Some immediate efficiencies of the software:

The software can also be further developed to eliminate any impacting or emerging conditions identified by clients. Continuing to have equipment with unknown specification operating outside of design intent adds significant risk and the potential cost to any operation.

In addition to the efficiencies identified in the below subsections, there is potential for further value to be added by incorporating the Type B compliance software as part of equipment procurement. This would allow design review and approval prior to delivery of any packaged options and allow equipment to be managed through their entire lifecycle.  This eliminates any design, data capture and ongoing management issues currently being experienced.

Safety:

  • With equipment information captured, an immediate office based review will allow unsafe conditions to be identified. The software also allows modifications to be made to identify the most feasible solution to attain compliance before any field-based work is required
  • The software enables immediate equipment specification to be verified, for instance in the event of a failed component or safety recall, units impacted can be identified at the push of a few buttons without the need for field inspection or complex information searches
  • The database allows an accurate and standardised way to capture legacy equipment and enables an efficient path to compliance
  • The database allows an accurate and standardised way to manage ongoing compliance requirements
  • The remote platform allows legacy equipment information to be captured efficiently and accurately with non-compliance items immediately identified
  • With equipment, information captured it is possible to immediately measure the compliance status of any operation and the progress made towards total compliance
  • Units nearing compliance requirements can automatically alert the user to enable efficient work management planning to keep the units compliant at all times
  • Unknown modifications can be identified immediately in the field using the IPad App and a visual inspection. Non like for like component changes immediately make equipment non-compliant

Cost Decrease:

  • Cost can be immediately reduced with the elimination of unrequired site inspection, data capture and entry requirements by personnel or contractors
  • A centralised location for all Type B information reduces the time and therefore cost associated with locating, updating or replicating technical data
  • Submission technical assurance eliminates the potential or submission rejection and re-work during the approval process
  • The automated technical submission generation allows efficient calculation and inclusion of all required data with immediate integrated email submission and status capture

Time:

  • As with cost, time requirements can be immediately reduced with the elimination of unrequired site inspection, risk identification and mitigation, data capture and entry requirements by personnel or contractors
  • The centralised location for all Type B information reduces the time associated with locating, updating or replicating technical data
  • Submission technical assurance eliminates the potential or submission rejection and re-work during the approval process
  • The automated technical submission generation allows efficient calculation and inclusion of all required data with immediate integrated email submission and status capture
  • The centralised location and standardised approach eliminates the potential for existing data to be lost or not located, it also allows it to be efficiently utilised for future requirements
  • The platform eliminates the requirement for multiple personnel and business streams to be executing compliance requirements. Compliance can be managed simply and efficiently by office-based staff

 

Work Flow/ Execution:

  • The software allows impending works to be flagged prior to the required date allowing the appropriate work management process to be completed prior to compliance dates
  • Legacy equipment information can be easily captured during non-related equipment visits by maintenance personnel
  • Equipment specification and operating information is available from a central location
  • Personnel will become more comfortable and less overwhelmed by the requirements of Type B by using the simple format
  • Elimination of modification re-work
